Reindeer in velvet

GlacierScottyJust as our plants seem to grow by leaps and bounds this time of year, so do reindeer antlers. The stars of the holiday season lose their antlers in the depths of midwinter. But come spring, fuzzy nubs appear, stretching into monstrous racks by midsummer. Thought they shed their heavy winter coats for a sleek summer look, their antlers remain velvety through July. Glacier, the newest addition to the farm, is growing his yearling set, while Scotty, now the old man, already has the beginnings of something impressive. In spring, when the temperatures are still cool and the grass is growing at a good clip, the reindeer can be found bouncing through the fields…the beginnings of flight.
