My father-in-law couldn’t wait to show off his latest project when I arrived for a visit – an upside-down tomato plant. I take my tomatoes traditionally, twisting up the stakes I set when I plant seedlings in the garden. Although I’ve been aware of the plant-in-the-bag phenomenon, I haven’t seen them in use firsthand. Can’t wait to watch the progress through the season. A seasoned tomato-grower himself, my father-in-law anticipated the eventual weight of the plant, constructing this sturdy plant hanger to do double duty for produce and blossoms alike. Potted basil to pair with the tomatoes in summer salads is growing on the deck just below.
